The Organ Encyclopedia ‘Het Historische Orgel’ is the reference work for anyone interested in the rich history of pipe organs in the Netherlands (1479-1970). Currently this information on building methods and characteristics of +/- 2000 Dutch pipe organs can be found by manually browsing the approximately 4500 pages of the encyclopedia. The ORGANS pilot within Polifonia aims to accelerate this process by digitizing the entire encyclopedia series and presenting this information in a knowledge graph. This is done in close cooperation with our stakeholder the National Institute of Organ Art.

A press release on this ambition was issued in mid December. Following this press release, the Dutch Orgelnieuws brought Polifonia to the attention of Dutch organ professionals and enthusiasts. Anyone interested in hearing more about the goals of the pilot, or curious about the leading researcher behind it, can also watch the introductory video by Peter van Kranenburg (Meertens Institute – KNAW) as of today.

The press release in Dutch and English can be downloaded here. For all videos about Polifonia work packages and pilots, please visit our YouTube channel.
