Exciting news after months of development: Polifonia is beginning to take shape, as a visual representation of the web portal sees the light of day. Polifonia developed a graphic prototype web portal for music knowledge discovery that targets non-specialist users, curious and passionate users, and domain experts. Let’s take a sneak peek at the first visuals!
The Polifonia web portal will be designed in a magazine-alike fashion and will be supported by data-driven insights and interfaces for storytelling. The concept of the web portal is inspired by the mechanisms and the ‘punched cylinder’ of a music box.
The portal will include two main interaction patterns: a homepage showing a carousel of thematic sections and an interactive search on the archive of the Polifonia Knowledge Graph. The goal is to let users switch between these modes when they start exploring the music knowledge connections. Once they pick their favourite topics, they can explore more insights, supported by charts, and can follow links to related sources on the web.
The developers also intend to enrich the web portal experience with music. When scrolling the carousel, small music effects will be played as soon as a card appears in the lower part of the screen. The combination of colors (part of our brand identity) and themes will generate a melody, hence playing the soundtrack of a story related to music heritage!
Last but not least: the user kept in mind for this portal is not merely a music scholar! The website is going to be carefully designed in a way that it invites everyone to an exploratory approach in music heritage discovery.
The graphic prototypes presented above will be leading for the developers, but are subjected to change as the Polifonia developers are currently working on refining this exciting idea, and are discussing with music scholars and music passionates to gain more insights and improve the User eXperience.
