Utrecht University students of the first year computer science course Designing Interactive Systems were invited to kick off their course period with a visit to the iconic Dom Tower and Sint-Maartenskathedraal in Utrecht (the Netherlands).
The gothic cathedral holds the largest church tower in the Netherlands and was built in several stages through the late middle ages. The pipe organ also dates from different periods. The first mention of an organ in the cathedral dates back to 1342. The medieval organ was replaced by a new organ in 1569-1571. In 1825, a new instrument was built, though several original pipes from the 16th century were preserved.
